A subliminal or similar type of self-help message script statement can be written in either the first or second person perspective.

First and Second PerspectivesMessages in the first person refer to statements worded as “I am” and those in the second person perspective as “You are”.

It is important to understand the difference between the two perspectives and whether to consider using either or both when designing message scripts.

Message statements phrased as “I am” may not be as acceptable to the subconscious mind of a listener as those beginning with “You are”.

The reverse can also be true and it depends greatly on how receptive the listener is to subconscious change, and in what manner.

Using the First Person Perspective

Certain individuals may subconsciously be more comfortable listening to messages delivered from the first person perspective.

Understanding First and Second PerspectivesThis may be because of their past experiences and perhaps having been repeatedly told that “you will never do this”, “you can never be that”, or similar criticisms that become beliefs embedded in their subconscious mind.

Subconscious memories of this nature can be carried forward into the present so that anyone stating to them that “You are…” may trigger resistance.

The result could be that they would be hesitant to subconsciously accept any statement that tells them to do, be or act in a certain way when worded in the second person perspective.

In such a scenario, a more advisable option would be to avoid using the second person perspective and consider rephrasing the message statement in the first person perspective.

If you knew that the target listener had these issues, it would be preferable to phrase the message statements in a manner such as “I am …” In this way, less resistance may be encountered from their subconscious mind.

Using the Second Person Perspective

It can also be the case that certain individuals do not think about themselves and the target subject in a positive way.

Second Person Perspective Self JudgementThis may arise from frequently repeating to themselves that “I can never be this”, “I will always be that”, or many similar negative statements.

Self-criticism or judgement is perhaps the most powerful form of negative self-programming and regrettably occurs far too frequently with most people.

The result of this can be that such individuals are less receptive to statements worded in the first person.

Being positively complimented and encouraged from another person’s perspective may make them more receptive about being able to achieve the target goal.

For people with this challenge, it would likely be more suitable to use messages stated in the second person, such as “You are successful”.

Mixing Both First and Second Person Perspectives

Including both first and second person message statements in a script is not difficult and strongly suggested.

Mixing First and Second PerspectivesIt is only necessary to create two different versions of each statement, one in the first person, and another from the second person perspective.

It is also important to present them in an alternating manner and this simply means that the initial statement is in the first person perspective and the one following be in the second person perspective.

The order can be reversed if you choose and there is no difference in doing so.

For example, instead of including only a message statement as “I am successful”, it is suggested to follow this with an additional statement in the second person perspective such as “You are successful”.

If a created message script perhaps includes 30 different statements, then just by adding additional statements in the second person perspective would mean that the length of the script would be twice the size, or 60 statements.

The length of your message script is important as are other considerations with regard to using present or future tenses, and addressing sub-themes when designing the message statements.

Messages from the Listener Perspective

Fully understanding the mind of the target listener is almost impossible and consequently, the best option may be to use both first and second person perspectives when writing a message script.

Understanding From Listener PerspectiveThere is no way to be certain that the message script of a recording will be able to help all potential listeners. By targeting one specific type of listener you may be ignoring the other.

All message script creation efforts should be focused on designing a message script so that a balance is achieved.

Creating message script statements with this in mind may help a greater number of people in different scenarios.

This can only serve to make the final recording both more effective and acceptable to the potential audience.
